History
The Southern Highlands was originally inhabited by the Walbanga and Wandandian tribes for many thousands of years. In the early 19th Century, Cedar Cutters came in search of timber, followed by settlers bringing cattle and building homesteads.
In the 1860's, railway arrived in the Southern Highlands; encouraging tourists enjoying a glimpse of country life and a respite from the cities.
Little has changed today, with vineyards and olive groves dotted among the English-style gardens, rolling farming land and historic townships.

White Water RaftingThe Shoalhaven River is a great fun white water adventure, beginning in the Southern Highlands. Due to fluctuations in water levels is not as reliable as other rivers, yet when its up its awesome. When the water level is low 2 person sports rafts are used.
