History
The Hunter Valley was originally inhabited by the Darkinjung people for many thousands of years.
In the 1820's the area was cleared for farming and in the 1900's coal seams were discovered, giving the Hunter a different perspective.
Gradually the mines have closed down, to be replaced by wineries and tourism, with over 4500 acres of vines covering the Hunter Valley.
Bushsports recommends Hunter Valley Crowne Plaza and Cypress Lakes Resort as suitable Hunter Conference venues for Survivor Team Building Events, Mini Olympics, Hunter Valley Amazing Races and fun team activity function centres.
The conference facilities are excellent with balconies overlooking pools, golf courses and quality Hunter Valley wineries makes these a place to take your breath away.

Things to do Visit the Wineries of course! Bushsports develops your package. Our favourite's include:
Brokenwood Hunter Valley Winery
Started as a 100% do-it-yourself co-op in 1970. Brokenwood currently bottles some 20,000 cases of wine a year, drawing fruit from Coonawarra, McLaren vale, the Goulburn and Yarra Valleys and local vineyards - including its own Graveyard and Cricket Pitch plantings.
Calais Estate Hunter Valley Winery
A magnificent convict carved sandstone building serves as the tasting venue for Calais Estates. Calais Estates annual crush of 250t consists mainly of Chardonnay (for which the winery is noted), semillon and shiraz.
Lake’s Folly Hunter Valley Winery
When Dr Max Lake planted his first vines in 1963 he did so after a three year search for the ideal site, finally settling on a patch of red volcanic soil just off the Branxton Highway. To the absolute horror of the local winegrowing establishment he planted cabernet sauvignon vines, at a time when there was not a single bearing cabernet vine in the Hunter.
Lindemans Hunter Valley Winery Cellar Door
The Lindemans wine making tradition is more than 150 years old. In the Hunter, the name Lindeman is firmly identified with two labels: Ben Ean and Hunter River Burgundy (white, red and sparkling). Ben Ean in its day, was by far the top selling Australian table wine and introduced whole generations to the joys of the grape. Today Thrill team events and Bushsports works with Lindemans to develop exceptional Team Building activities, Wine Tastings and Wine Waitering Challenges within the Cellar Door.
McGuigan Brothers Hunter Valley Winery and Cellar Door
The McGuigan Brothers have been winemakers in the Hunter for over 50 years. In addition to the McGuigan range, they house a selection of wines from around Australia and the winery grounds also incorporate the Hunter Valley Cheese Company and the McGuigan Fudge Shop!
McWilliam’s Mount Pleasant Hunter Valley Winery
Founded in 1921, Mount Pleasant produces a wide range of classic Hunter wines under the guidance of Phil Ryan, only the third winemaker in the history of Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant is part of the McWilliam’s Wines group, the largest family-owned, 100% Australian wine company in Australia. The range of wines includes Australia’s most awarded white wine, Elizabeth Semillon, the Lovedale Semillon, the Rosehill Shiraz as well as museum releases and a selection of varietal wines.
Oakvale Hunter Valley Winery
Situated directly under the Brokenback range, Oakvale is renowned for their old growth vines including the much acclaimed Oakvale Reserve Peppercorn and Peach Tree Wines
Peppertree Winery Establised in 1991 and nestled in the heart of the Hunter Valley. Specialising in Semillion, Verdelho and Shiraz.
Peterson’s Champagne House
The only sparkling wine production facility in the Hunter offering both methode champenoise and sparkling burgundy styles.
Robyn Drayton Winery The Drayton family established a small 32-hectare farm in the Hunter Valley in 1857, with the first wine produced in 1860. Since 1992 Robyn Drayton Wines has been awarded 24 trophies, 39 gold, 46 silver and 86 bronze medals for their wines. Recently Robyn Drayton Wines was awarded WineState magazine’s "Best Semillon of the Year" title
The Rothbury Estate
Founded in 1968 as a producer of premium regional table wines. Total winery capacity is presently 400,000 cases per year. Rothbury, with its striking architecture and the talents of winemaker Peter Hall, is one of the Hunter’s most spectacular showplaces.
Tamburlaine
Run in tandem by Mark DavidSon and Greg Silkman, Tamburlaine remains true to its boutique origins - a low volume, high quality producer turning our an annual 6000 cases of a deliberately restricted range.
Tyrrells Hunter Valley Winery
Still family owned after 143 years, Tyrrells allows you to walk amongst its history as you stroll past old vats before you taste the award winning wines
Piggs Peake
Boutique winery showcasing a range of full bodied unique varietals from the Hunter Valley; (Piggs Peake - Wines with grunt, so sayeth the pig!)
Wandin Valley Hunter Valley Winery and Cellar Door
Bushsports conducts excellent fun team building activities on site. The Millstone vineyards were purchased by James Davern, executive producer of the long-running ‘A Country Practice’ television series. One of the prettiest wineries in the Hunter, complete with its own private cricket ground. Offers a full range of labels including a pink champagne-styled rose and an unusual ruby cabernet. The cellar door also contains a gallery of pottery and paintings by local artists.
